A Wagoner From The Jewish Town

Watercolors on cotton paper. size 78 * 58

This painting expresses longing for an innocent Jewish world that was "once upon a time" and is now gone—from the beginning of Jewish life of Eastern Europe until the Holocaust: Jewish family life and community life with the toil of earning a living and the challenges of surviving and maintaining the Jewish core despite the difficulties. I chose to paint the front of the painting—the cart and the horses—accurately and deeply, with attention to all the details. I chose to paint the background in an airy way. Therefore, it seems that the cart comes out of a reality that is no longer tangible and belongs to memories of the past.
